The wedding is over. The honeymoon is history. Get ready, get set—now comes the marriage! At first, the couple begins marriage with a highly satisfying relationship. Then, later it becomes hard work to keep the happiness alive. Wouldn't it be great if marital bliss just stayed forever blissful? The reality is that, over time, every couple has to contend with things such as misunderstandings, unexpected life events, personal differences, and social expectations—to name a few. Even with such challenges a couple can have a happy, emotionally and spiritually healthy marriage.
The church of Christ on McDermott Road endeavors to equip couples with the know-how to nurture their marriage long past the moment they say “I Do.” Over the last several years we have accomplished much by offering individual, premarital, marriage and family therapy in our Counseling Center.
Within our Faithful Homes pillar our family ministry will continue to strive to connect and equip generations on life’s eternal journey—“so that we may present everyone perfect in Christ” (Colossians 1:28, NIV).
Dynamic Marriage takes you and your spouse on an insightful journey to discover each other’s innermost emotional needs and expectations. Based on the “Love Bank” model from the book, His Needs, Her Needs by Dr. Willard Harley, you’ll learn how communication and behavior styles affect the way you and your spouse act and react to each other.
Through an interactive learning process, you’ll identify behaviors that may be damaging your marriage, develop healthy ways to deal with marital conflict and take concrete steps to meet each other’s needs better than you ever have before.
Week after week, you’ll uncover new perspectives about yourself and your spouse... all the while your newly acquired skills are becoming a natural part of your relationship. By the end, you and your spouse communicate, interact, understand and love each other at a deeper, more intimate level.
Marriage Mentoring is important for marriages in that it gives couples a place to turn to when they experience the struggles — normal and otherwise — in their relationship. Mature and established couples who have “been there, done that” are asked to step up and become mentors.
There is great benefit when you get with another couple to help you walk through the issues that they themselves have already successfully navigated. It can really help bring insight and perspective to the situations most all couples encounter. Having another couple to speak to about your marriage and work with you is often a much better than going through marriage therapy. Marriage mentoring really works and has significantly reduced the divorce rates in churches that have such programs.
