We know that one day McDermott Road will be asked to present itself to Christ as a beautiful bride holy, pure and blameless.  Our desire and goal is to be a church prepared and ready for the great wedding feast of the Lamb (Revelation 19).  In order to draw ourselves closer to that goal, our visionpurposemission and values must engage toward an ongoing, transformative relationship that will draw everyone closer to the King of Kings and The Lord of Lords.

The process below is an intentional, strategic approach that we have implemented to encourage transformational spiritual growth.  It is not flawless but it seeks to help direct our efforts both congregationally and individually.

God’s Word serves as the biblical mandate from which our congregational vision is based.

“The church of Christ on McDermott Road aspires to be a Christ-centered, Spirit-led, Bible-based group of Christians working to reach the lost and encouraging transformational spiritual growth among our members.”

...so that we may present everyone mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28).

As Christians we are not yet perfect, or fully mature.  Here at McDermott Road some are new Christians while others have been Christians for decades.  We cover the full spectrum from lukewarm to those passionate about their faith.  And no matter where one finds oneself on the continuum, it is our goal that everyone is in a continual process of growing and becoming fully-equipped disciples, transformed into His image.  “We ... are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18)

McDermott Road leadership can do no less than make an effort "to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:12).  Our purpose is simple: to fulfill Christ's vision for His Church by equipping everyone to learn, grow, mature and serve as they are transformed into His image (Ephesians 4:11-15). As a church we will strenuously labor to fulfill this purpose. We will proclaim Jesus, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone mature in Christ (Colossians 1:28).

The New Testament has an answer for a larger, more diverse and more complex growing church family and it guides our unique mission.   Our mission is:

“Connecting and Equipping Generations on Life’s Eternal Journey.”

Our earthly journey is just the beginning.  Jesus Christ is our eternal objective, and “Generations” reminds us that our mission includes presenting everyone mature in Christ regardless of their stage of life, individual circumstances, or their spiritual place on the journey.  “Connecting and Equipping” describes a community of faith working and united together in faith and love (Ephesians 4:11-16).  The spiritual version of our human bodies connected through the power and working of Jesus Christ accomplishes his purposes of continual transformation.  Through Christ each of us are connected and equipped, using our individual gifts and talents, to accomplish a specific function within the body.

McDermott Road’s ministries are organized around five important values, or pillars as we call them.  These pillars exist to build the kingdom of God in this place.  The completed figure below represents our approach to accomplishing our purpose of “presenting everyone mature in Christ” as we “connect and equip generations” for life here and beyond.

Transformational Growth – God has a strong desire for us to know Him better, to gain wisdom and to understand His will and His way.  McDermott Road designs opportunities of biblical, Christ-centered teaching to aid everyone in their spiritual growth.  Through Bible classes, small groups and other teaching opportunities we listen, learn and apply the truths which continually transforms us into Him image.

Authentic Relationships – Christ wants His body to grow in community with each other.  As a body we support one another, we challenge one another, we equip one another and we love one another within Jesus Christ.  Authentic relationships are built through one’s participation in a wide range of ministries designed to connect people to each other and to Christ.

Faithful Homes – God designed the family as the primary vehicle to nurture spiritual maturity.  Connecting each home, regardless of make-up or stage of life, with the necessary tools to equip and nurture the home is essential to presenting everyone mature in Christ.  Ministries at McDermott Road enrich the home, strengthen marriages and transform the lives of children and students.

Sacred Worship – Worship plays a critical part in each individual’s life, each home and within our entire faith family.  God desires His created beings to give Him glory and honor, and the ministries within this pillar are designed to ensure that our church family benefits from biblical, vibrant and God-honoring worship.  We seek to connect with God through worship in praise and adoration to our Creator and Son.

Evangelistic Outreach – We must never forget our responsibility to bring the saving message of the Gospel to a lost and dying world.  This responsibility is absolutely core to our existence as a church family.  In recognition of this commission we have committed a large portion of our funds, and the participation of every member of this church family, to reach out to the lost.  Therefore, the ministries in this pillar are designed to connect us to the world and equip us all for making disciples.
